That leads me to believe the early M156 head bolts have a design fault that MB should have acknowledged and either done a recall. or made owners aware and they could decide for themselves whether to take precautionary action (like Developer John) … WebMay 31, 2024 · This thread by John (Developer) back in 2014 covers a lot of this head bolt business. Well worth a read for any earlier M156 owners with concerns. Costs are there too, but inflation from 2014 has probably seen the price rise substantially.

WebI’d say the M159 is the better version. The engine is used in the AMG GT3 and what people don’t know is it’s a stock factory built unit. It’s pulled off the engine line and put into the race car. The only racing components are what’s hooked up externally like coolers and the ME tune, but the rest is stock. horse head mafia

Yes, replacing the head bolts fixes the problem, but you also need to replace the liters as that was another issue with the M156 engine. Are you going to DIY? Torn between the m156 and m157 and hearing slot of scary head bolt issues and other stuff with the M156. Which one shall I go for, the price gap between the models seems to jump.
